Cordova, Alaska
Anchored between Lake Eyak and Orca Inlet in the SE corner of Prince William Sound the community of Cordova was once one of the largest & most prosperous cities in Alaska. Today it’s a small fishing town with a population that doubles with the changing of the seasons. From its fragile economy to its remote location & extremely resilient residents Cordova is a place of many extreme contrasts. It’s a place that quite often seems to take 1 step forward only to take 2 back. Returning here after an 8 year absence Im amused by the things that have changed but really amazed at some of the things that haven’t.

Photo a Day Idea
Originally I was attempting to capture the feel or essence of springtime in Cordova within one photograph. That proved to be much harder than it sounded. Instead I think I will try the ‘photo a day’ approach. Cordova has more than enough subject matter to support such a project so we’ll just see how this goes. It now looks like I will be here through the summer and although I may not get a new photo posted everyday due to work schedule or spotty internet access but I will try to keep this changing up as frequent as possible. Some photos may come with editorial, others hopefully will be self-explanatory. Comments & suggestions are welcome. My opinion matters very little but it does seem that some of the people who live here do so with blinders on and our perception of certain subjects here may differ by 180 degrees, but that in itself is the essence of Cordova isn’t it. Hope you enjoy this page.
PS- These photos will open in a larger page when clicked. Ive noticed the blogger website tends to compress some of these photos to the point of changing their size ratio, especially on the vertical files. If a picture happens to look stretched one way or another opening it in another window will fix the view.
